Baseball Coverage, presented by 18|8 Fine Men’s Salon: Wolverines Get Mercy-Rule Win Over Millis

Westwood won big over Millis on Friday, knocking off the Mohawks 12-2 at Westwood High School.
 
The Wolverines jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored one run, Vincent Willits doubled, scoring three runs, and another error scored a run. The green extended the early lead with four runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Jake Abdou, Teddy McGowan, and Dylan Kaplan.
 
Dylan Lewandan earned the win for Westwood, allowing no hits and no runs over two innings, striking out two and walking none. Ben Hilton, Brian Sullivan, and Will Donahue each threw shutout innings for Westwood in relief. The game ended in the bottom of the sixth when Westwood opened a ten-run lead.
 
The Wolverines amassed nine hits in the game. Willits led the way with three RBIs. Kaplan went 2-for-2 at the plate. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating eight walks for the game. The Wolverines ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game, including two from Jonathan Bertone. Westwood was also sure-handed in the field, playing error-free and spinning a double play. Abdou had the most chances in the field with five.
 
The Wolverines take their two-game winning streak on the road and will face Medfield Monday afternoon, entering with a 7-5 record on the season.
