Baseball Coverage, presented by 18|8 Fine Men’s Salon: Wolverines Break It Open, Roll Past Dedham

Westwood baseball traveled to Barnes Memorial Park on Thursday afternoon for a TVL matchup against Dedham and delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, defeating the Marauders 12-2. With the win, the Wolverines improve to 9-6 on the season and will return home Monday, May 11th, to host Hopkinton.
 
The game was competitive early as both teams battled through the first few innings. Westwood struck first in the top of the opening inning when Teddy McGowan drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the game’s first run. Dedham answered in the bottom of the second with an RBI double to even the score at 1-1.
 
The Wolverines responded immediately in the third inning, reclaiming the lead after Chase Warren drove in a run with a sacrifice fly before another run crossed later in the inning to give Westwood a 3-1 advantage.
 
From there, the Wolverines completely took control.
 
Westwood exploded for seven runs in the top of the fourth inning in what proved to be the decisive stretch of the game. Ryan Petres delivered an RBI single to start the rally before Chase Warren added an RBI double. Teddy McGowan followed with a two-run triple to break the game open, while Brendan Cengic and Colin Johnson each added RBI singles as Westwood’s offense continued to pour it on.
 
The Wolverines finished with 12 hits on the afternoon and showcased contributions throughout the lineup. Brendan Cengic led the offensive attack with three hits, while Ryan Petres and Patrick Hunt each recorded multi-hit games. McGowan drove in three runs from the middle of the order and Westwood continued to pressure Dedham on the basepaths, finishing with four stolen bases as a team.
 
On the mound, Patrick Hunt earned the win for Westwood, while Ben Hilton and Collin Johnson combined for scoreless relief appearances to close out the victory.
 
Another strong all-around showing for the Wolverines as they continue to build momentum heading into a key home matchup Monday against Hopkinton.
