Big Shots from Rodman, Pindel Highlight Overtime win for Wolverines over Medway

Westwood rallied from a seven-point fourth quarter deficit to force overtime and outscored Medway 9-3 in the extra session to secure a 56-50 win, remaining undefeated in TVL play.

The Wolverines took advantage of Medway’s struggles from the free-throw line in the first half, taking a 25-19 lead into the break. Both Adrian Ortiz and Robert Liriano-Alejandro scored seven through two quarters, while Christian Cautilli paced the Mustangs with five first half points.

Medway seized control in the third, making a series of jumpers, including three-pointers from Grant Hetzel and Tommy Stotz. The Mustangs outscored the Wolverines 16-9 in the third and took a 35-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

That gap stretched to seven, and Westwood wisely attacked the basket, not settling for jump shots against Medway’s zone defense, as they chipped away. Ty Pindel scored in the paint, and Leo Chilangwa also had a bucket, but no shot was bigger than a wide-open three-pointer from Aidan Rodman that gave Westwood at 47-45 lead, setting the crowd into a frenzy.

Medway responded with a driving bucket from Jacob White, who was fouled and had the opportunity to finish the three-point play the old-fashioned way. White’s free throw missed, and Rodman missed a pair on the other end, giving Medway the final chance to score in regulation. Taking the ball out from under their offensive basket on two separate occasions with under :15 remaining, the Mustangs were unable to get off a shot, sending the game overtime tied at 47.

In OT, the big bucket came from Pindel, who nailed a corner three to put Westwood up 53-47, but almost immediately, Hetzel answered with a three-pointer the other way, drawing Medway within three yet again.

After Westwood failed to score on their next possession, Liriano-Alejandro forced a turnover, poking the ball free, which was scooped up by Rodman who fed Liriano-Alejandro for the game-clinching layup.

RLA led all scorers with 19 points, while Hetzel topped the Medway scoresheet with 12. Rodman and Ortiz scored seven, Pindel and Brady Lipton finished with six apiece, Chilangwa had four, Dylon Zeneski three, while Teddy McGowan and Seamus Gannon each scored two.

The Wolverines, now 4-1 on the season, head to Millis for a date with the Mohawks Wednesday night.
