Westwood delivered one of its most rewarding wins of the season Friday night, making a statement on the road with a 75–61 victory over TVL Large rival Hopkinton in a showcase of leadership, pace, and execution.
Leading the charge was Robert Liriano-Alejandro, who put together a sensational night, pouring in a season-high 31 points to pace the Wolverines in dominant fashion. “Bobby Buckets” set the tone early and never let up, guiding Westwood to a smooth and convincing road win.
The Wolverines wasted no time asserting themselves, exploding for 25 first-quarter points and jumping out to an 11-point lead. Liriano-Alejandro scored nine points in the opening frame, igniting a fast-paced offense built on ball movement and high-percentage looks. Ty Pindel established his presence in the post early, forcing Hopkinton to collapse defensively and opening space on the perimeter. Westwood led 25–14 after one.
That momentum carried into the second quarter, as Westwood continued to push the tempo, outscoring Hopkinton 19–17 to take a 44–32 halftime lead. The starting unit of Pindel, Adrian Ortiz, Liriano-Alejandro, Aidan Rodman, and Leo Chilangwa played in rhythm, forcing turnovers and turning defense into transition offense. Crisp passing and unselfish play led to open looks—and the Wolverines capitalized.
Westwood showed no signs of slowing down in the third quarter. Ball movement and pace remained the difference, highlighted by one of the night’s most electric moments when Pindel threaded a pass to Chilangwa on a seam route, and Chilangwa rose up for a two-handed slam, sending the Westwood bench to its feet. It marked Chilangwa’s second dunk of the season and perfectly captured the Wolverines’ energy and confidence. Westwood closed the quarter leading 67–49.
With a comfortable cushion, the Wolverines shifted gears in the fourth, slowing the pace, protecting the ball, and closing out the game with maturity beyond their years. The result was a 75–61 road victory that underscored Westwood’s balance and discipline.
Liriano-Alejandro finished with 31 points, while Pindel added 13 and Chilangwa chipped in 10, rounding out a strong all-around scoring effort.
With the win, Westwood improves to 6–1 on the season and a perfect 6–0 in the TVL. The Wolverines will look to keep the momentum rolling when they hit the road again to face Dedham on Thursday, January 13.
