Wolverines Clinch Undefeated League Season with Third-Period Explosion

Westwood entered Saturday’s matinee against the Holliston/Ashland co-op knowing exactly what was at stake — a win would secure an undefeated Tri-Valley League season, a feat accomplished only four times previously in program history. As expected, the Panthers made it a battle, sticking to their identity of hanging tough against the league’s top teams.
 
Before the puck even dropped, the energy was set. Young Wolverines Harry Callahan, Danny McGuire, and Tommy Callahan joined warmups and starting lineups, bringing enthusiasm and pride that carried straight into the opening shift.
 
Westwood struck first five minutes in when Connor Blaney finished a pass from Ben Sicular. The Wolverines doubled the lead late in the period as Luke Martin drove the net and buried a chance with 23 seconds left, assisted by Nolan Lewis and Matty Donovan, sending Westwood into intermission up 2–0.
 
Holliston/Ashland responded in the second, increasing its pace and pressuring the net. The Panthers scored twice within a minute and a half late in the period to even the game at 2–2, setting up a critical third period.
 
Westwood’s response was immediate.
 
Just eight seconds into the third, Lewis skated through the defense and slipped a five-hole finish to regain the lead. Four minutes later, Blaney scored his second of the night off a Lewis assist, and only 25 seconds after that Will Dempsey blasted home another from Sicular to make it 5–2.
 
The highlight of the afternoon followed when sophomore Sebi O’Brien went coast-to-coast, splitting defenders and wiring a shot inside the post for his first varsity goal — a well-earned moment for one of the team’s top defensive forwards and penalty killers. Paddy Dalton capped the scoring with five minutes remaining off an O’Brien assist, sealing the 7–2 win.
 
Westwood not only secured the victory, but did so emphatically — turning a tied game into a dominant finish and completing an undefeated TVL season, showing the kind of resilience and fire that arrives at the perfect time with the playoffs just around the corner.
 
With the win, the Wolverines move to 15–2–1 on the season and will return home Monday afternoon for a non-league matchup against Oliver Ames, where the program will also honor its seniors.
