Fast Start Powers Westwood Into Round of 16

After a seven-day layoff, Westwood wasted no time getting back into form, delivering a commanding 6–1 win over #27 Mansfield in the Round of 32 of the MIAA Division 2 playoffs on Thursday night at home.
 
From the opening puck drop, the Wolverines set the tone with physical play and sustained offensive pressure, feeding off the home crowd energy. That early urgency paid off quickly, as Westwood erupted for three goals in the first period.
 
Junior captain Matty Donovan opened the scoring, finishing a beautiful backhand saucer pass from Nolan Lewis with a precise shot low inside the post. Freshman Ryan Romiza then took over, capitalizing on a Mansfield turnover to fire home his first of the night. Moments later, Romiza struck again, executing a give-and-go with sophomore defenseman Caleb Fengler before walking in and scoring through traffic to give Westwood a 3–0 lead after one.
 
The Wolverines kept their foot on the gas in the second period. Paddy Dalton extended the lead to 4–0, burying a rebound after a Lewis breakaway attempt. Lewis then added a goal of his own, racing down the right side and finishing with ease to make it 5–0.
 
Westwood capped the scoring in the third period when Lewis delivered a no-look backhand pass to Donovan, who buried his second goal of the night. The Donovan-Lewis duo combined for seven points in a dominant offensive showing.
 
Defensively, the Wolverines were steady throughout, with Brian Sullivan, Caleb Fengler, Will Dempsey, James Galvin, and Colin Johnson leading a disciplined effort in front of senior goaltender Sean Joyce. Joyce was sharp turning aside key chances to maintain control whenever Mansfield threatened
 
With the win, Westwood advances to the Round of 16, where they will host #11 Billerica at the Ice House on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
