Westwood Boys Lacrosse wasted no time carrying over momentum from its emotional Senior Night win over Hopkinton, returning to Flahive Field with an opportunity to claim the TVL Large title outright against rival Norwood.
The Wolverines delivered in dominant fashion.
Westwood rolled past Norwood 15–6, securing the outright TVL Large Championship and making history in the process — capturing back-to-back league titles for the first time in program history.
From the opening whistle, the Wolverines set the tone with a complete performance on both ends of the field.
Leading the offensive charge was Greg Walsh, who erupted for eight goals in a standout performance breaking the single game goal record. Liam Williams and Will Sesselman each added two goals, while Matthew Humphrey, Will Stuehler, and CJ Hancock also found the back of the net in a balanced scoring effort.
Hancock delivered an equally impactful performance of the night, contributing across the board with a goal, five assists, and an incredible eight caused turnovers. That effort brings his season total to 87 caused turnovers — passing the senior-year mark of his mentor, Donald Varnerin (79). While historical defensive records are not as closely tracked as offensive output, and unsure of what the school record is, Hancock’s season stands among the most impressive defensive campaigns in recent memory and has been instrumental to Westwood’s success.
The Wolverines’ dominance extended beyond the scoreboard, as their defensive intensity and transition play continued to fuel opportunities throughout the game.
With the win, Westwood improves to 15–2 on the season and firmly establishes itself as one of the top teams in the state heading into the final stretch.
Next up, the Wolverines will hit the road on Thursday, May 21, for a matchup against Ashland.
