The Westwood Boys Soccer Team added a tie to its record thanks to a late goal in regulation against the Hopkinton Hillers. At Flahive, Westwood’s home turf, the Wolverines teamwork and passing skills were on full display, as the team showcased its efficiency and consistency. Both teams carried a 2-0 record into the game and left with a tie after finishing knotted 2-2.

During the first half, the Wolverines were sharp, their defense quick and aware. Harry Hayes showed his athleticism, springing up high and using his head to delay the advance of the Hopkinton offense. Off of a Hopkinton throw-in, Ellis Calawa completed a defensive footwork sequence to gain possession back for the Wolverines. With five minutes left in the first half, goalkeeper Ansh Sattiraju saved a shot taken by the Hopkinton offense, and the score remained even going into the second half.

The Wolverines come out of halftime explosively, with intention: within the first five minutes of the half, Trevor Ferreira earned a penalty shot and capitalized, scoring the first goal of the game. Celebrations erupted and the energy bled over to the next few plays as Leo Chilangwa crossed to Owen Rezek, who just missed the goal. Shortly after, Hopkinton scored on a penalty shot, tying the game at 1-1 with 25 minutes left on the clock.

In the last 20 minutes of the match, Sam Meng used his head to gain possession for Westwood. He then passed to Avik Sattiraju , who advanced toward the goal, but was stopped by the quick reflexes of the Hopkinton defense.

At the 10 minute mark, Hopkinton scored its second goal of the night, gaining a 2-1 edge. As the clock wound down, the Westwood Girls Soccer team arrived home from their road game in Hopkinton and provided energy and encouragement during the last few minutes of the match.

Until the last two minutes, the Hillers looked like they were going to take home the win, however, Owen Maguire came through with a goal to tie up the game. Flahive erupted in cheers as the whistle blew and Westwood maintained its undefeated streak.

Westwood displayed perseverance and a late-game comeback ability during this game, maintaining their position atop the TVL. On September 11 at Dedham High School, the Wolverines (2-0-1) will look to remain unscathed as they square off with the Marauders.
