Dover-Sherborn, Defending D3 Boys Soccer Champs, Edges Westwood at Flahive

The Westwood Boys Soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday night, dropping a hard-fought 2–0 decision at home to defending Division 3 state champion and TVL Small favorite Dover-Sherborn. The result moves the Wolverines to 3-1-3 on the year.
 
The Raiders struck early, converting a header off a cross during an odd-man rush just minutes into the match to grab a 1–0 lead. The quick strike gave DS early momentum, but Westwood responded with resilience. The Wolverines generated several strong looks in the first half, including a pair of outside shots from captain Trevor Ferreira that just missed the frame. Dover-Sherborn’s defensive strategy focused on cutting off the middle of the field, frequently sending two or three defenders to disrupt Ferreira and Lexi Michalacos before they could build momentum in the attack.

Westwood’s back line, however, stood tall. Ethan Buttner anchored the defense with composed play in the middle, breaking up runs and jump-starting the Wolverines’ counterattacks. Sam Meng, Jack Tateosian, Harry Hayes, and George Stamatakos all contributed to a strong collective effort that limited DS’s scoring chances. In net, Ansh Sattiraju came up with several big saves, while Meng provided one of the defensive highlights of the match with a critical blocked shot inside the box to keep the deficit at one.

Dover-Sherborn eventually doubled its lead midway through the second half, scoring off an unlucky ricochet on a corner kick to make it 2–0. Westwood increased its pressure down the stretch behind Ferreira and Buttner, but the Raiders’ back line held firm to secure the shutout.

The Wolverines will look to bounce back quickly as they return to action on Monday, September 22, on the road against Medway.
