The holidays are magical…and also full of cookies, pies, and candy bowls that seem to multiply overnight. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a treat, but if every office break room brownie keeps calling your name, it helps to have a game plan.
One of the best strategies? Put up barriers, not bans. For example, tell yourself: “I’ll grab that cookie after I have a protein snack.” Suddenly, you’re not saying no, you’re just setting a condition that helps you make a better choice first. Protein is great here because it keeps you full, supports muscle, and makes that cookie less likely to turn into four.
But let’s be clear: the goal isn’t restriction. Food is part of the celebration, and you don’t need to “earn” your holiday meals. Instead of trying to cut back, shift your focus toward building strength. Think of this season as your “healthy bulk”, the perfect time to fuel your workouts, lift heavier, and challenge yourself.
Keep moving, keep lifting, and keep some balance. When you’re consistent with strength training and staying active, whether it’s at the gym, in an Orangetheory class, or outdoors, your body uses that extra holiday fuel for good.
So go ahead, enjoy the pie. You’re not falling off track! you’re getting stronger for the season ahead!
