Jessup Has Historical Birthday Performance in Westwood’s Blowout Win over Norwood

On a night when the Class of 1975 celebrated the start of its 50th reunion weekend, the Westwood football team did their part by putting 50 points on the board in a lopsided win over Norwood. Senior wide receiver Charlie Jessup, back from injury, posted historical numbers, on his birthday no less, that will be tough to beat – two kick recoveries, two interceptions and three touchdowns – as the Wolverines beat the Mustangs 50-7 to open their TVL Large schedule.
 
The tone for the night was set immediately as Westwood put four touchdowns on the board in less than six minutes of play. The Wolverines opened the scoring on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Ty Pindel to Jessup on 4th-and-8 during the game’s first drive. After the snap went high on the point-after attempt, Pindel connected with Keilan McDonald in the end zone for a two-point conversion to make it 8-0.
 
On the ensuing kickoff, Jessup recovered a loose ball along the left sideline, giving Westwood possession again. A short time later, Pindel and Jessup hooked up again, this time from 25 yards away, to give the green and white a 15-0 lead.
 
It was deja vu all over again on the next kickoff as Jessup recovered the kick in open space, earning the Wolverines yet another possession. This time, the drive was capped by a 19-yard connection from Pindel to McDonald that made the score 22-0.
 
Jessup ended Norwood’s first offensive possession with an interception and the Wolverines once again capitalized, as Brendan Cengic burst through the line for a 29-yard touchdown to put Westwood on top 29-0.
 
All of that happened in 5:38 of play.
 
Westwood continued to dominate in the second quarter, with Pindel rolling left and finding JR Drayton deep downfield. A few plays later, Pindel threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game – and second to McDonald – from eight yards away to make it a 36-0 tally. On Norwood’s ensusing possession, Jessup corraled his second interception of the night, and proceeded to weave his way through traffic and into the clear, streaking 50 yards to the end zone with a pick six, his third touchdown of the night.
 
Norwood finally answered with a 33-yard TD strike from Kevin Roach to Sam Larkee, and the score at halftime was 43-7.
 
The offensive highlight of the second half was a 75-yard run from Narawut Kamolratanapiboon. The senior captain took off from his own 24-yard line and seemed destined for six, but was harnassed at Norwood’s one. Fittinginly, Kamolratanapiboon was rewarded with the touchdown, a one-yard plunge to make it 50-7.
 
From there, a number of depth players gained some playing time as the clock ran continuously. Chase Warren took over at quarterback. Jack Button ran the ball a few times. Will Sesselman recorded a sack, and Mikey Murphy made some key plays to complement his solid punting.
 
With the lopsided win, Westwood improves to 2-3 on the season, and 1-0 in the TVL Large. The Wolverines will return to action next Friday night when they welcome Dedham to Flahive Field.
