Football: Ashland’s Ozulumba Runs Wild in Resounding Win over Westwood

As the TVL Large schedule started, Westwood and Ashland were the two teams expected to battle for the division title. The Clockers and Wolverines both entered Friday’s matchup riding a wave of momentum, both having hammered their previous two opponents.
 
Ashland was able to keep the momentum rolling, riding the legs and speed of standout running back Kevin Ozulumba, who scored four touchdowns as the Clockers defeated Westwood 34-13 to remain undefeated in TVL Large play.
 
Westwood struck first, less than four minutes into the game, when Ty Pindel connected with JR Drayton in the flat for a 50-yard score. The shifty senior receiver made a defender miss at the 40-yard-line and rocketed to the end zone to make the score 7-0.
 
Ashland answered with an extended drive, capped off by a seven-yard touchdown run from Ozulumba, who followed solid blocking and slithered into the end zone to even the game.
 
The score remained tied into the second quarter, when Westwood regained the lead. A 25-yard throw from Pindel to Keilan McDonald was followed by another connection from the same pair to get the ball to the ten-yard-line with :16 to play in the second quarter. After a pass interference call in the end zone, Pindel found McDonald again, this time for a touchdown that made the score 13-7. The PAT was missed from 35 yards out after a post-whistle penalty on the TD pushed the attempt back.
 
Ashland opened the second half by taking more than five minutes off the clock, capping it off with a 27-yard touchdown scamper from Ozulumba, his second of the night, which made the score 14-13.
 
Ozulumba broke the game open on the Clockers next drive, slipping through a seam on the right side of the line and dashing 78 yards for his third touchdown of the game.
 
The Clockers took a 21-13 lead into the fourth quarter, and added a pair of additional touchdowns. Ashland capitalized on an interception, with Ozulumba once again breaking a long touchdown run down the right side, this time 86 yards to paydirt. The final score was credited to Malachi Lambert, who barreled home from a yard out to make the final score 34-13.
 
The loss drops the Wolverines to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the TVL Large, with matchups against Hopkinton and Holliston remaining on the schedule, plus whatever games are scheduled for early November – to be determined.
