Caroline Connors scored 20 points to lead the way for the visiting Mohawks as Millis defeated Westwood 54-41 Wednesday night. Julie Hogan scored 16 and Lizzie Weeman scored 12 for the Wolverines.
Millis played from ahead for most of the game, getting solid contributions from Grace Higgins, who finished with 10 points, and Lucy Miller, who scored nine. The Mohawks led 16-14 after one quarter and opened a larger lead, but Westwood chipped away and once again drew within two at the halftime break.
The Mohawks started the second half with a flurry of offense, scoring six quick points to take command of the action. They never looked back, as Westwood struggled to score from the outside and didn’t have an answer for Connors on the defensive end.
Elyse Boger made some nice defensive plays, and went coast-to-coast with a steal on one end and layup on the other. Both Hogan and Weeman connected on three three-pointers, keeping the Wolverines within striking distance.
With the loss, Westwood falls to 2-4 on the season, but has an opportunity to get back on the winning track Wednesday night when Hopkinton comes to town. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:15pm at Bader Gymnasium.
