Gavin and Rockers Lead Westwood Girls Cross Country to 18–44 Win Over Norwood

The Westwood Girls Cross Country team delivered a commanding performance in its first home race of the season, defeating cross-town rival Norwood 18–44. The win moves the Wolverines to 2-0 and highlighted both the steady leadership of veteran runners and the emergence of exciting new talent.
 
Senior captain Maeve Gavin set the tone as Westwood’s pacemaker, taking first place with a time of 19:41. Right behind her, Susannah Rockers surged in the final stretch, using a powerful kick to secure second in 19:49.
 
The newcomers impressed as well. Sophomore Ryan Colleran posted a personal record, breaking the 21-minute barrier for the first time to finish fourth. Close behind was Elyse Boger, another promising newcomer, who crossed fifth in 20:54, with Ciara Chi right on her heels in sixth at 20:57.
 
Rounding out the varsity seven were senior captain Adrienne Kelly, who ran a steady 21:33, and sophomore Violet Gavin, who finished in 27:11.
 
The program also celebrated standout efforts beyond the scoring group. Sophomore Kimia Kashfi dropped more than three minutes off her previous best for a new PR, while Shannon McGrail and Caitlin Tignor, more known for their track speed, successfully completed their first-ever 5Ks.
 
It was a well-rounded performance from top to bottom for Westwood, who will look to keep building momentum as the schedule intensifies.
