Girls Cross Country: Westwood Places 3rd at MIAA Divisional Championship, Eyes Set on State Title

The Westwood Girls Cross Country team took to the trails of Northfield Mountain this weekend for the MIAA Divisional Championships, lining up their top seven runners after completing their second consecutive undefeated regular season. Facing 34 of the strongest programs in the state, the Wolverines delivered an outstanding team performance on one of the most challenging courses in Massachusetts.
 

Leading the way were junior standouts Susannah Rockers and Hailey Cashman, both of whom earned individual medals by finishing among the top 15 runners in a competitive field of 155. Sophomore Ryan Colleran turned in a stellar performance of her own, finishing 18th overall, just outside of medal contention.
 

The team—Senior captain Maeve Gavin, juniors Rockers, Elyse Boger, Cashman, and Cara Sullivan, and sophomores Ciara Chi and Colleran—showcased both depth and determination. Five of the seven were members of last year’s state championship roster, while newcomers Colleran and Boger made their championship debuts with strong contributions.
 

Westwood ultimately finished third overall, scoring 94 points, just five points shy of Marblehead (89) and behind team champion Boston Latin Academy (74), a citywide powerhouse drawing from public schools across Boston.
 

The Northfield Mountain course tested every runner with its grueling 1,200-meter climb off the start followed by relentless rolling hills, demanding grit from start to finish.
 

With momentum building and a clear sense of unfinished business, the Wolverines are poised and motivated as they prepare to line up next weekend at Fort Devens, ready to defend and reclaim their state championship title.
