Strong Defense, Timely Goals Lift Westwood Past Norwood

The Westwood girls hockey team faced off against Norwood on February 4th in an MIAA Division 2 matchup that brought plenty of intensity and tight checking. Both squads battled hard from puck drop in a game that stayed competitive all the way to the final horn.
 
The first period was all about defense and goaltending, as each team tested the other early. Westwood had strong chances, with the game being played primarily in Norwood’s defensive zone. Strong goaltending by both Jennifer Lin and Norwood’s goalie kept the game scoreless after one period.
 
Westwood opened things up in the second period when Maeve Callahan fired a shot, and after a scramble in front of the net, Julia Marino picked up the assist to make it 1–0. The Mustangs kept the pressure on and managed to block several Westwood shots; however, Maggie Ash capitalized later in the period, giving Westwood a 2–0 cushion by the end of the second.
 
Norwood made things competitive late in the third with a power-play goal that shifted momentum. Westwood stayed composed, winning battles along the boards and maintaining a defensively sound game. Justine Connelly came up clutch with a low, hard shot from the point, sealing the win for Westwood.
 
The game ended with a 3–1 score, and Westwood improved its record to 14–1.
