Hanson Stands Alone, Makes History as Westwood Girls Soccer Rolls Past Norwood

The Westwood Girls Soccer team continued its strong start to the season with a commanding 7–1 victory on the road against rival Norwood on Thursday night. The win moves the Wolverines to 2–0 on the young season, but the bigger story came from Senior Captain Izzy Hanson, who etched her name into the program record books.
 
With two assists on the night, Hanson became the all-time points leader in Westwood Girls Soccer history, passing former standout and UMass lacrosse player Lil Hancock. Hanson now stands alone atop the leaderboard with 33 points — a testament to her consistency, skill, and leadership. Her coaches describe her as not only an exceptional player but an even better person, making the milestone all the more meaningful.
 
On the field, fellow captain Bella Wen delivered a breakout performance with a hat trick, a fitting reward for a player known for her unselfish playmaking and defensive work rate in the midfield. Natalie Unger chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Hanson’s playmaking helped set up several of the Wolverines’ scoring chances.
 
It was also a night of firsts for Westwood, as Avery Boehm, Charlie Jurgens, and Lindsey Bannister each tallied their first goals of the season. The highlight came when freshman Charlie Jurgens, and sophomore Avery Boehm found the back of the net for their first career varsity goals, drawing big celebrations from teammates and coaches alike. Erin Gannon added an assist to round out a complete team effort.
 
With two impressive early wins to open the year, Westwood now turns its attention to its toughest early-season test: a road matchup with perennial TVL Division 1 power Hopkinton on Tuesday, September 9 at 5:00 p.m. Fans can catch the action live on HCAM’s YouTube channel, with the link shared on game day by @WW_Calls.
