Wolverines Blank Norwood, Earn Seventh Shutout of the Season

On Youth Soccer Night, the Wolverines continued their impressive late-season surge with a dominant 4–0 win over Norwood at Flahive Field on Monday night, improving to 11–3–1 on the season.
 
The first half was a physical back-and-forth battle as both teams fought for possession and space. Westwood’s defense — led by Olivia Mason, Emma Lu, Vanetta Stamatakos, and Avery Boehm — stood tall, turning away multiple Norwood attacks while setting up transition plays through the midfield.
 
Finally, in the 32nd minute, Natalie Unger broke the deadlock on a great feed from Stamatakos, using her speed to beat a defender wide before calmly rolling a shot inside the far post to give Westwood a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.
 
At the break, Coach Seth Lucash made key tactical adjustments to open up the attack — and they paid off immediately. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Izzy Hanson delivered a perfectly struck corner kick that bent directly into the back of the net for a rare “Olympico” goal, putting the Wolverines up 2–0.
 
Just two minutes later, Hanson’s precision from the corner struck again — this time finding Olivia Shea, who soared through the defense to head home Westwood’s third goal of the match.
 
The scoring was capped off by freshman Charlie Jurgens, who found herself on the end of a centering pass from Unger. Jurgens created separation from her defender and fired a low shot past the Norwood keeper to seal the 4–0 win.
 
Goalkeeper Alessia Chilangwa and the back line secured Westwood’s seventh shutout of the year, highlighting the team’s continued excellence on both sides of the ball.
 
With the victory, the Wolverines set the stage for one of the most anticipated matchups of the season: a TVL Large showdown with Hopkinton on Tuesday, October 21st at 6:00 PM at Flahive Field. A win would pull Westwood even with the Hillers atop the league standings.
