Girls Soccer Caps Best Season in Years, Eyes Postseason Run

While Ashland entered the match fighting to keep their postseason hopes alive, Westwood was focused on fine-tuning their form heading into the state tournament. The Wolverines — currently ranked #13 in Division 2 — were also chasing their 12th win of the season, marking their most victories since before the COVID era, a testament to the growth and depth of the program.
 
The match was tightly contested from the opening whistle, with both defenses standing strong through the first half. Then, midway through the second, senior captain and all-time program points leader Izzy Hanson (53 career points) broke the deadlock — burying a loose ball in the box to give Westwood the lead. From there, the Wolverines’ back line and goalkeepers shut the door, holding firm until the final whistle.
 
The night was filled with both emotion and accomplishment. Senior goalkeeper Alessia Chilangwa, who shared duties with Sofia Bertone, earned the shutout — the 10th of her career, tying her with Westwood alum Rachel Berliner for the most goaltender shutouts in program history.
 
On the defensive end, captain Olivia Mason climbed to second all-time in defensive shutouts (20), while Emma Lu moved into third place (17), further highlighting the senior class’s lasting mark on the program.
 
As the Wolverines celebrated the win, they also reflected on the remarkable contributions of their seven seniors:
 
#5 Molly Crummet, #10 Olivia Mason (Captain), #12 Olivia Shea (Captain), #19 Izzy Hanson (Captain), #21 Emma Lu, #23 Bella Wen (Captain), and #99 Alessia Chilangwa.
 
It was a fitting end to a season defined by leadership, resilience, and pride — and a reminder that this senior class has left the program stronger than they found it. With the win, Westwood finishes the regular season 12–4–2, heading into the playoffs as one of the hottest teams in the TVL and a dangerous contender in Division 2.
