Summer in Westwood is all about longer days, fresh air, and vibrant food, and it’s the perfect time to realign with healthy habits. As a private chef and nutrition coach, I see this season as a golden opportunity to fuel our bodies with purpose and flavor.
First and foremost: hydration. Don’t underestimate the power of water, especially during hot, active days. Add a squeeze of lemon, cucumber, or mint for a refreshing twist and a dose of antioxidants.
Next, take advantage of the season’s bounty. Local farmers markets are overflowing with ripe tomatoes, leafy greens, summer squash, and juicy berries. These foods aren’t just delicious, they’re packed with fiber, vitamins, and minerals that support digestion, energy, and a strong immune system.
Summer is also a great time to rethink how we cook. Opt for grilled proteins like wild-caught salmon or marinated chicken, and skip the heavy sauces in favor of fresh herb rubs or citrus-based dressings. Keep meals light but satisfying.
Finally, don’t fear indulgence, but make it intentional. A homemade berry crisp with oats and almond flour is a great example of a dessert that feels decadent but supports your goals.
Healthy eating in summer should be simple, enjoyable, and sustainable. Let’s make it a lifestyle, not a chore. Eat right and keep moving!
