Custom Tee-Shirt Captures “Old School” Westwood

Creating the “Old School” Westwood Nostalgia t-shirt has been a deeply personal project for me, rooted in a profound connection to my hometown. Growing up in Westwood, with my parents still running their business, The Julia Ruth House, from our family home, has given me a unique and cherished perspective on the town’s rich history. My bond with Westwood runs deep, having spent my formative years here and remaining close with a tight-knit group of friends from my elementary days through high school, class of 1984. This t-shirt project was my way of celebrating those enduring relationships and the community that shaped my life.
 
The idea for the design stemmed from a heartfelt post I made in the “Old School Westwood” Facebook group, seeking to collect everyone’s favorite memories from the town. The overwhelming response of 279 comments was both heartwarming and inspiring. It was incredible to see the flood of nostalgic stories about local places, restaurants, and beloved nicknames. I kept the reason for the post a secret, and the joy of seeing the community come together to share their memories was the highlight of the process. With all this rich material, I created a design that encapsulates the essence of Old School Westwood, reflecting the shared experiences and unique charm of our town.
 
While my initial attempt to share the design was met with some challenges due to group promotion rules, I was able to adapt and post it in other Westwood groups that welcomed such content. The “Old School” Westwood design is not just a product, but a celebration of our collective past, perfect for anyone who grew up in the 60s through the 80s and wants to carry a piece of that history with them.
