Randy Hatch Lights Up The Neighborhood

Since late November, if you’ve driven down Briar Lane, there’s no chance you’ve missed the incredible Christmas light display at Randy Hatch’s house. The long-time Westwood resident has once again wowed the neighborhood, showcasing all of the skills he’s learned as the owner of RJ Hatch Electrical Contracting.
 
“It started in 1983 at my mom’s house,” said Randy. “We outlined it then, and it’s just kept growing. I finally got my own house that gave me the freedom to buy everything that Home Depot sold. This year, I had to get a new Santa Claus, because my old Santa Claus had to be retired,” he said. “He’s not looking too good anymore.”
 
In all, there are around 75,000 lights in the display and it’s a pure pleasure for the Hatch family to provide some holiday spirit in the neighborhood.
 
“I have kids who come up and ask on Halloween night, ‘Mr. Hatch, are you gonna have the lights this year?’ We have many people coming by, during the process, asking if it’s going to be lit up that night, even though it’s not completed.”
 
I asked Randy about the time it takes and the danger associated with hanging lights from his roof.
 
“I have a nice gentleman who works for me with great knees, and he’s not afraid of heights,” he said with a chuckle.
