Westwood ran into a tough matchup on Friday, falling 9–0 to a sharp Milton squad that executed in all phases.
Milton wasted no time setting the tone, pushing across three runs in the opening frame with a mix of contact hitting and productive outs. They added another in the second and continued to apply pressure throughout, building a steady lead behind consistent at-bats and aggressive baserunning.
Despite the scoreline, there were a few bright spots for the Wolverines. Sophomore Alexis Cahill battled through all seven innings in the circle, showing impressive poise and composure while competing pitch by pitch against a lineup that strung together 11 hits. Cahill also recorded three strikeouts in the outing. Defensively, Westwood had its moments, highlighted by a momentum-shifting double play. Julia Raffoni ranged deep into the gap to make a strong running catch, then quickly gathered and fired a laser to second. Mia French secured it on the bag to complete an impressive, heads-up play.
At the plate, hits were hard to come by against a Milton pitcher who controlled the tempo all game. Izzy Walsh and Abby Johnson each recorded a hit to lead the Wolverines’ offense on the day.
Milton also made their presence felt on the bases, swiping multiple bags and capitalizing on scoring opportunities, while playing clean, error-free defense behind their pitcher.
With the loss, the Wolverines move to 1–6 on the season. They’ll now have a chance to reset with a 10-day break before returning to action on Monday, April 27th.
