Softball Coverage, presented by APR Physical Therapy: Late Surge Carries Ashland Past Westwood

A rejuvenated and impressive Ashland team broke open a back and forth affair with an explosive seventh inning, and got out of town with a hard-earned 14-6 win over Westwood Tuesday afternoon.
 
Izzy Walsh collected three hits in three at bats for Westwood to lead the way offensively for the home team, singling in the second inning, fourth inning, and seventh inning.
 
After Ashland took a 3-0 lead, Westwood tied the game in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a single by Brooke Benger, a double by Eve Clinton, a single by Walsh, and a single by Julia Tartufo.
 
In the top of the fifth, Ashland took a lead, but Westwood rallied again, scoring three in the bottom half. Mia French’s single knocked in the go-ahead run to make it 6-5.
 
Ashland knotted the game at six in the sixth and flipped the game on its head in the top of the seventh, scoring eight runs on five hits to take the lead.
 
Westwood amassed 12 hits in the game. Clinton and Walsh were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits. French, Clinton, Tartufo, and Walsh each drove in one run, and Julia Raffoni collected two hits in three at bats.
 
Westwood’s home stand continues Friday when the Wolverines host Millis.
