T&G Electrical: A Father-Son Legacy

By: Diana Bezdedeanu

If you ask George Boukouvalas, the spark that started his career as an electrician can be traced back to a heartfelt conversation with his father in the late 1990s. George had recently graduated from Merrimack College with an accounting degree and was working in Boston at Fidelity Investments. At the time, his father Thomas, who founded T&G Electrical in the early 90s, was managing a major development project in Andover.

“My father said, ‘George, what are you going to do? I can’t do this alone,’” George remembered. “He told me, ‘This is your chance to take over and grow the business, to have real flexibility and control over your time, your decisions, and your future.’”

Inspired by the opportunity to build something that would last, George began attending trade school at night after his shifts at Fidelity. By June 2000, he had earned his license and submitted his notice.

“I’ve been doing this for 25 years,” George shared. “I really love what I do.”

The T and G in T&G Electrical stands for Thomas and George, a nod to the company’s foundation. While George’s father is now retired, the company’s commitment to old school service remains unchanged. One factor that sets T&G apart is George’s background in finance, which he credits for shaping his approach to client relationships.

“When you hire us, you’re getting someone with a different background than most electricians,” George said. “My experience in finance gives me a strong business mindset. I communicate clearly, provide detailed estimates so customers know exactly what they’re paying for, and we pride ourselves on being prompt and clean. There are no surprises, and that transparency builds trust from the start.”

Although the business has been operating for more than 30 years, George remains committed to staying current. He attends review classes every three years to renew his license and keep up with evolving trends and technology. Today, a significant portion of his work is driven by the growing demand for electric vehicles.

“The newest thing out there is the electric vehicle. The chargers are a big part of our business; we’re averaging at least two a week right now,” George said. These installations often uncover the need for important safety upgrades. “We go into homes and we see that a homeowner’s panels are full, or they don’t have enough amperage. So we go in and do a service upgrade or we give them a bigger panel. The EVs open the doors for more work for us, which is huge.”

George is also noticing a shift away from fossil fuels in many towns, with more homeowners moving from gas to electric for appliances like induction ovens, hot water tanks, and dryers. In addition, T&G offers specialized services that many homeowners may not be aware of, including knob and tube inspections for Mass Save projects and pre-sale home inspections to ensure properties are safe and up to code. Ultimately, T&G Electrical specializes more on the residential side, with both new construction and remodels, including kitchens and baths.

As a sponsor of Westwood Living since the fall of 2025, George strongly believes in supporting the small businesses that form the backbone of the community. With his father living in Westwood and the business located on the Dedham-Westwood line since 1998, that connection is deeply personal.

“Being a small business, I always support local small businesses because as a small business owner, I feel strongly about supporting other local small businesses as I understand what it means to have skin in the game, and the ripple effect of investing in the local economy and community.”

“I love seeing a project come together and adding value to people’s homes,” George continued, noting that outdoor entertainment areas and finished basements for home offices and gyms – projects that surged in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic – are among his favorites.

Looking ahead, George hopes to expand his team so he can spend more time in the back office, but his passion for the trade remains unchanged. At its core, the business is built on maintaining long-term relationships.

“My father built this business within the Greek community with the old-school Greeks, and many of those customers are still with us today,” George said. “We prioritize safety and relationships, and we don’t price gouge. That’s what leads to consistent work and high-value referrals. We’re here to take care of people and build trust for the long run.”
