Hayes, Steinmetz and Innis Shine in Westwood’s Convincing Win Over Millis

A deep Westwood team took advantage of facing a young Millis squad and secured a second consecutive win, while showcasing a number of talented players on the court.
 
The straight-set win was highlighted by outstanding play from freshman Mia Steinmetz, who came out of the gate strong, and fellow freshman Kate Innis, who made her varsity debut count. Innis scored back to back points in the first set to give Westwood a 12-5 lead. Lyla Hayes also made her presence known and was named player of the game. Her contributions began in the first set and continued throughout the match. At one point, Samara Maroun laid out for a dig that kept a rally alive and led to a Westwood point.
 
Westwood took the first set, 25-10, and carried the momentum to the second. Hayes rattled off four consecutive aces to lead the Wolverines to a 14-3 lead, and shortly after, Jennifer Lin delivered back-to-back aces, as well to make it 22-7. Steinmetz was assisted by Alex Zafiropoulos on a powerful kill to extend the lead to 22-9, and Hayes finished the set with a kill to make it 25-9.
 
Tav Lodavico began the third set on a tear, rattling off 16 straight points from behind the line. Also involved in the action were Mimi Demien and Caitlin Ryan, along with Noa Ifrah, who finished the match by stringing together five straight points from behind the service line to put a bow on it as Westwood won, 25-6.
 
The 25-10, 25-9, 25-6 victory improved Westwood’s record to 6-2. The Wolverines head to Bellingham on Friday to face the undefeated Blackhawks, with the match slated to start at 6:30.
