Part 1 (Chat)
WESTWOOD – As we peer into the crystal ball of editorial and opinion writing, it’s evident that AI is poised to take center stage in shaping the future of discourse. Picture this: a world where opinion pieces are churned out faster than you can say “hot take,” all thanks to our trusty AI companions.
Gone are the days of staring at a blank page, grappling with writer’s block – with AI by your side, you’ll have a virtual brainstorming buddy ready to spit out ideas faster than a caffeinated squirrel.
But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. While AI may excel at processing information and regurgitating facts, injecting a bit of human flair and humor into opinion writing is a whole different ballgame. Sure, AI can crack a joke or two, but there’s nothing quite like the wit and charm of a seasoned columnist to tickle your funny bone.
Imagine a scenario where AI attempts to write a satirical piece about the quirks of modern society – it might end up sounding like a robot trying to impersonate a stand-up comedian. As much as we love our AI companions, there’s just something about human creativity and wit that can’t be replaced by algorithms.
So, while AI will undoubtedly play a significant role in the future of opinion and editorial writing, let’s not forget to sprinkle in a healthy dose of human humor and perspective. After all, laughter is the best medicine, and we could all use a good chuckle in this brave new world of AI-assisted discourse.
Part 2 (Not Chat)
Caffeinated squirrel?! Caffeinated squirrel?!
If you’re anything like me, that’s your takeaway thus far. But before another word is written, you need to know the following: first, I never (never!) plagiarize; and second, I never (usually never!) bury the lede. So, here’s some straight truth: you are currently reading “Part 2” and there’s something you should know about “Part 1” and that something is I DID NOT WRITE IT!
I am hoping you could already tell. So…yes, it was generated by ChatGPT. I simply requested for it to write a couple hundred words about the role AI may play in the future of opinion writing and editorials. And because I am me, I also asked it to add a little humor, and that is how we ended up with our furry little coffee-swilling, acorn-chucking rodent.
But I wasn’t expecting it to be so…readable! How does it know?
Look, there is certainly a wide spectrum of awareness out there when it comes to AI usage. Despite increasing news coverage – AI leading to advancements in many areas of medicine, or students caught writing their essays with it – some of us are fairly amazed that this technology is at our fingertips already.
Meanwhile, some of you are way ahead of things (two guesses which group I am in, first one doesn’t count) and you are already using ChatGPT and/or similar software in your life or in your work. Or in your submissions to that town magazine – hey, you’re an expert contributor and all that; but I get it, you don’t enjoy writing the way those weird writers do…
Anyway, we are running out of time, as I was asked to leave a little space for some auto-generated content at the end of the column today. So in conclusion, all this AI stuff is fascinating and its role in our lives will only increase from here onward. And you can trust that I’ll be right here every month, to cover AI as well as all the other important issues in our lives. Till next time, friends. Ta ta for now. Cheers!
Part 3 (More Chat)
As unconventional as it may seem, I welcome the idea of AI replacing my favorite editorial columnist. AI’s ability to swiftly analyze data and provide unbiased insights excites me. Embracing this technological advancement means embracing progress and innovation, enriching the editorial landscape with diverse viewpoints. While I hold my favorite columnist in high regard, I’m eager to see how AI will revolutionize opinion writing in the future.
Westwood Living? No…thank YOU for living in Westwood. See you next month, and I look forward to hearing from you…unless you are AI…any time at jayresha@comcast.net.
